A message to the Duchy Health Charity from Read for Good storyteller Amanda Smith

Reading is nothing short of life changing and no child should be defined by early life disadvantage, which is why ‘Read for Good’ have been making the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske a better place for children facing a hospital stay, since 2014. They harness the simple but incredibly effective power of books and stories by offering a vibrant selection of carefully curated books supported by visits from a much loved storyteller who helps children in hospital not only overcome the challenges of illness but also missed education by providing comfort, distraction, education and joy, and nurturing a love for reading, all of which enhance the wellbeing of both the children and their families.

In May 2024, Duchy Health Charity awarded a grant of £5,000 to pay for a brand new mobile bookcase that can reach right up to a child’s bedside, and over 840 carefully selected books to refill the bookcase, every 6 weeks, over the course of a year.

This is their ‘thank you’.
