CONFERENCE CANCELLATION: PROFIT FOR PATIENTS AND PRACTICES 27 MARCH 2020

All signed-up delegates will receive an email in the next few days to say that a pack will be sent to them to enable everyone to read the papers from our Speakers, to view the film and to use, if appropriate to their teams and themselves, the accompanying training aides that have been specifically designed for all the County’s GP Practices.

It is our intention, when the virus allows, to hold a day at Eden to learn from the experiences of GP Practice workshops and to share best practice ideas that come into play between now and then.

Changing the Script

Background: Brexit and the 2019 General Election – and now Corvid-19 – have all conspired against our Charity being able to host the above Conference and Film Premier at Eden this month.

We all recognise that our NHS is at its severest stress levels and that ‘Social Prescribing’ (SP) is even more pertinent today as the whole population looks towards the dire social impact the new virus will have, forever more, on all our lives and those of our communities.

In order to benefit from all the strategic and practical material that we have gathered for these events we will be publishing very soon a Changing the Script pack containing our speaker’s talks and thoughts, their facts and figures (visuals), real ‘live’ interviews with patients who have already benefited from SP, as well as links to our film and bespoke training aids for GP teams to use in their immediate training sessions

Content: Our themes follow closely the carefully conceived training workshop sessions and we will be editing the following content to reflect three phases of work that surgeries will need undergo.

1.    Forward: Dr Barbara Vann, Chair Duchy Health Charity on why we recognised early on the need to support our County’s Doctors and their surgery teams

2.    Introduction: A Cornish Update – Dr Rachel Wigglesworth Assistant Director Public Health for Cornwall & Isles of Scilly sets the scene and signposts the way SP is already being used by some practice teams.

3.    Part 1 What is Social Prescribing?

Alex Ollivier, Social Prescribing Manager, Veor Surgery, in conversation with someone whose life has been changed around by SP

Professor Catherine Leyshon, Exeter University, Co-Director of the Social Innovation Group on ‘Connecting People to Places through Conversations’

4.    Part 2 The Richness of the Third Sector

Dr Stewart Smith GP, St Austell on the View from the Consulting Room

Katy Hutchinson and Laura Curtis from the Chaos Group ‘Recreating Society from Chaos’ and how to run a Co-Partnership Workshop

5.     Part 3 Working Together Differently

Luke Bennett, Francis Clarke accountants on Profit for Patients and Practices

NHS Director on ‘Making it Personal’

Dr Michael Dixon: Chair of the College of Medicine,  Chair of the College of Medicine, Chair of the Social Prescribing Institute and Co-Chair of the National Social Prescribing Network on summarising the present Day and the immediate outlook for tomorrow

6.     Sponsors: Throughout the planning of our events we have been very fortunate in having the support of some of our regional professional businesses. They too will be publishing, with us, aspects of their work that contributes to the success of SP and they look at the many faces of ‘profit’ for practices as we all face a very Different future
