NEW ADDITIONS TO ARMADA AT HELFORD RIVER CHILDREN’S SAILING TRUST

Posted on 19 June 2016

In the spring of 2016 The Duchy Health Charity (DHC) and Trinity House joined together to expand Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust’s fleet by 7 vessels after their donation of £30,000. Both promote the health and wellbeing of the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly while The Budock Vean Hotel, Digs Property, Watson Marlow, Cornish Holiday Cottages and Steve Harmen from Gunwalloe each gave £1,500 to the cause.

This Trust has taken over 5,000 children onto the Helford River to learn to sail, kayak or row and by doing so boosts confidence, increases fitness and allows those who do not normally gain access to the water to enjoy this Cornish outdoor playground.

It is the Duchy Health Charity’s third substantial grant to the Trust and is testimony to the quality offer, management and dedication of those who run the organisation on the Lizard – an area that many think of as affluent but beneath the veneer of wealth lies one of the most deprived areas in the UK.

Sally Jane-Coode MBE and Duchy Health Charity’s Chair of Grants, says, “We’ve seen time and time again how the Trust gives youngsters a unique opportunity to participate in a healthy, life transforming experience”. View their activities online at www.hrcst.org.uk.

Editor’s note: if you believe your charitable organisation could benefit from similar support, and you have others willing to join in grant giving, Duchy Health Charity looks kindly on such initiatives.
