Duchy Health Charity sponsors the ‘Health Volunteer’ Award and at the Eden Project on Friday 16 November three nominees were presented:
Caitlin Dean, Chair of Pregnancy Sickness Support described how they use a website, social media (Facebook and Twitter) and a national helpline, to help those suffering from severe sickness in pregnancy which can be very debilitating and isolating.
Liskeard Breathers Group represented by Joe Barr and Andrew Hubbard have ten support groups throughout Cornwall for sufferers of Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease and similar long-term conditions. They do talks to schools about the dangers of smoking and are in the process of preparing a video teaching pack with EPIC that can be used with young people.
The third nominee, and winner of the Health Award was Rosemary Wickett who volunteers with Cornwall Foundation Trust. She has been a volunteer helping the mentally in for 30 years. Busy nearly every day of the week she runs social coffee mornings, a weekly Sunday lunch club, and teaches basic cooking skills at two homes for those with mental health problems, in North Cornwall. She is an AMES assessor with accreditation in mental health. Affectionally known as ‘Mother Rose’ she is held in high esteem by those she works with, and is a very deserving winner of the Health Award 2018.
