A student of the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has become the first recipient of our new Mary Grigg ‘enablement award’ and received a cheque for £500.00.
The name of the student is, of course, confidential but we were thrilled to have this note from her:
‘I just wanted to email to express my thanks and gratitude for the help you have given me. I was so thrilled to receive this good news after what feels like a very long and difficult three years.
The money will go a long way to making sure my car is safe to drive to and from placements and also keeping our home running. After being made homeless at the start of the pandemic and moving in to a rental property, my partner was involved in a serious road traffic accident in March 2022 and has not been able to work since. This hasn’t put me off and I’m studying harder than ever to make sure I qualify and can start my career as a Learning Disability Nurse as quickly as I can.
The work that you do means so much to the people you help.’
Mary Grigg
Mary was a much loved and dedicated Duchy Health Charity Trustee and who sadly passed away on 30th December 2018 after a short illness, leaving behind her devoted husband, Russell, as well as lasting memories for all of those fortunate to have known her as colleague or friend.
She was a keen fundraiser and responsible for events and activities that produced the necessary funds in the late ‘70’s to build Cornwall’s first private hospital. The hospital thrived for 10 years before being sold to a private health company who had the necessary funds to upgrade the building and equipment.
