Bosence Farm - transforming the lives of people with drug and alcohol addiction.
On a warm and sunny day in September, three of our Trustees, along with our Administrator, were welcomed to Bosence Farm Community.
Bosence Farm has been a beneficiary of a couple of grants from Duchy Health Charity, and our visit certainly assured us that our money has been very well directed.
We met Carolyn Trevivian, Fundraising Manager, and Kate Prosser the CEO, who spent over an hour telling us about their work at Bosence – work that has, for more than 20 years, filled a hole in the services provided in Cornwall for those individuals needing help with an addiction to alcohol or drugs.
We were shown the most recent building which provides 5 new single en-suite rooms for those undergoing detox treatment, adding to the 16 rehab rooms already provided in the greatly refurbished main farmhouse.

The new rooms were added with the help of Duchy Health Charity money, and provide a relaxed and comfortable environment for the 6 weeks (maximum) of the detox treatment period.
This inspiring centre has changed the lives of many people for the better over its lifetime, and among other notable achievements it has managed to turn former clients into providers of support and treatment for others who follow, whether as mentors, therapists or voluntary staff.
The Centre also provides residential rehabilitation facilities for those who emerge from detox, and facilities are greatly enhanced by the beautiful rural setting of its 20 acres, wherein a vegetable garden, growing tunnels, water features, a ‘forest’ feature (including fruit trees) and games room provide a palpably therapeutic atmosphere amongst the old and charming farm buildings; and all this is in keeping with the ‘green’ principles of the Eco project that this represents.
Bosence is a rarity- there are very few facilities of this nature nationally, and the Centre commonly receives referrals from distant parts of England which are not blessed with similar places. They are very much outcome-focused and are constantly looking for new and improved ways of assessing and helping their clients.
We were delighted to meet Noah (the Eco specialist who manages the rural features of the estate) and two former clients who are now employed as Team Leader and Key Worker bringing a significant contribution to the therapy team.
Other capital projects may well follow, and we suspect Duchy Health Charity will be called upon for further support in the future.
