New energy crisis impacts on our health and wellbeing in so many ways...
At the start of 2023 the Duchy Health Charity Board recognised that the high price of energy and the fastest rise in living costs experienced within a lifetime is impacting heavily on those on low incomes and with underlying health concerns.
The Trustees agreed to set aside £50,000 to meet the most urgent calls for help and asked Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) to manage the distribution of funds on our behalf.
This money is now providing smaller, much needed charities and community organisations with a vital lifeline across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Dr Barbara Vann, DL. Hon. DSc, Chair of Duchy Health Charity, said:
‘I am delighted that Duchy Health Charity is joining forces with CCF to help the people of Cornwall. This donation will be used to give wide-ranging support to those who are in need, especially those who may not be able to access statutory services. The help may take many forms and I would encourage people and organisations to apply.’
The partnership approach works particularly well in this instance because in 2022, CCF’s Poverty Hurts – Cornwall’s Cost of Living Crisis Appeal supported 60 community groups with more than £300,000. The supported projects included foodbanks, money advice centres, residents associations, youth projects, the Samaritans and Citizens Advice Cornwall.
Mrs Sally-Jane Coode, MBE, DL, Chair of the Grant Committee of Duchy Health Charity, said:
‘We are very pleased, as a charity whose aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Cornwall, to make a contribution to help those in need knowing what a difficult time many people are having at present’.
